The Pubs Code Adjudicator met with BII representatives in December.
Areas of mutual interest and discussion included pre-entry awareness training (PEAT), the role of the BII’s helpline and independent expert support offered to new tenants. BII is further updating PEAT which will include further clarity on obligations under the Pubs Code.
The PCA highlighted engagement with the pub-owning businesses on short agreements and wider communications on raising the profile of the value of intermediaries. The BII noted planned communications on the role of the Code Compliance Officer and improved communications on their Accredited Advisers networks. Both parties agreed to discuss communication plans in 2025.
Further discussions took place on the differences between the Pubs Code for pub owning businesses with more than 500 pubs and the voluntary agreement for those under 500.
